5FM announced a revamped line-up in June, with Lula Odibba announced as one of the station's newest additions.
After the morning slot, drivetime is the most popular time slot on radio stations, so it’s no surprise that 5FM’s new drivetime team are ecstatic to be moving from the midday slot to drivetime.
“There are many highlights to talk about from On Lunch but it was all about growing with South African listeners as friends and becoming family, and being nominated for Best Daytime Show, Best Newsreader and Best Content Producer in South Africa,” announcer Zanele Potelwa wrote.
Potelwa now hosts 5 Drive with the same team that hosted the lunchtime show, including news anchor Yanga Mujoli, content producers Shabzi Madalion and Masego Thulakanye, and sports presenters Jude Van Wyk and Nick Archibald, who provide traffic updates.
The station unveiled its revamped line-up in June, with former YFM presenter Lula Odiba announced as one of the station's newest members.
Lula Odiba, daughter of the late legendary announcer Eddie Zondi, will henceforth be hosting the show from 12pm to 3pm.
“It's all about truly connecting with young people and motivating them. It also gives me the opportunity to push boundaries in ways never before imagined and create innovative solutions for my clients.”
This makes 5FM the ultimate destination for brands looking to connect with the young people who will shape the future,” said Matisole Mudingane, PCS Combo Business Manager, 5FM and Good Hope FM, in a statement.

The journey from student radio station to commercial radio station
Potelwa reflected on her journey as a student at Tuks FM.
“Years ago when I would hear myself on Tuks FM I dreamed of one day hosting a daytime show on a commercial radio station and now I'm actually accepting this incredible honor (how faithful is God?) WHAT IS THIS!!! It's about to be an incredible journey and I hope all of you my loves will join me on this journey,” the presenter wrote on Instagram.
The show's producer, Shabzi Madalion (real name Leshabe Rampedi), looked back on his journey at the station as the show shifted between different time slots.
“Looking back on my journey, it feels like everything has come full circle. I came to 5FM with humility and determination, ready to take on whatever role would allow me to step into radio and make my mark,” Madalion wrote.
“Becoming the official producer of Zanele and Yanga's 5 Lunch was a key moment in my career. Creating the show with an incredible team has been a highlight, and now we're all enjoying drive time together.”
Another producer of new drive-time show “Tlhakanye” celebrated being nominated in the Entertainment Radio Producer of the Year category at this year's Basadi Awards.
