iPad Air (8/10, WIRED recommended) features a 10.9-inch LCD display, Touch ID built into the power button, and a USB-C port. Under the hood is the same M1 processor found in the 2020 MacBook Air. A great option if you're looking for an iPad with slightly more power than the 9th generation version. Apple is rumored to be launching a new version in the coming months, but the M1-powered iPad Air is still more than capable. It's been as low as $413 in the past, but it's still a bargain.
We call the 10th generation iPad an “awkward choice” (7/10, WIRED review). We recommend the 9th generation model instead, primarily for price reasons. However, it is nevertheless packed with notable features. In addition to a more modern design (no home button and slimmer bezels around the display), the selfie camera has been moved to the center of the iPad (more natural for video calls), and the rear camera has also been upgraded. Powered by Apple's A14 Bionic chip, which is also found in the iPhone 12. However, it is worth noting that there are frequent sales at this price.
The iPad Mini (8/10, WIRED recommended) is recommended for travel. It takes up minimal space in your tote and fits perfectly on an airplane tray table. The 8.3-inch display is perfect for watching movies and reading e-books. If you're using it to take notes, 2nd generation and USB-C Apple Pencils are also supported. There's an A15 Bionic processor under the hood that can easily handle games and heavy-duty apps.

I like this case from Speck, especially since it has built-in grooves for angle adjustment and a removable camera cover. If you have an Apple Pencil, you can store it in the built-in slot. It also has a latch instead of a magnetic cover. Please note that this case is for the 10th generation iPad.
The Magic Keyboard Folio is too expensive and is generally not recommended.price did In November, the lowest price reached $169, which is still a good deal. Designed specifically for the 10th generation iPad, this case consists of two parts. The first half covers the back and has a built-in kickstand, while the second half has a removable keyboard with a trackpad. Very useful for people who use their iPad to work during the day and watch TV at night.
The first generation Apple Pencil has its drawbacks. To charge it, you have to remove the cap and plug the Lightning connector on the tip of the stylus into your iPad, and there's nowhere to connect it to your iPad when you're not using it. . But it still works well enough and includes features like tilt sensitivity (for shading) and pressure sensitivity (the lines get thicker the harder you press on the screen). Currently, the only models that still use this are the 9th and 10th generation iPads. If you don't want to buy it on Amazon, it's also on sale at Best Buy for $79 ($20 off).
If you're like me and tend to forget your device charger when you go out, this power adapter is a great accessory. It has two USB-C ports (so you can use two gadgets at the same time) and has a rated output of 35 watts. This is powerful enough to charge the iPad Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. We often see prices drop to this level, but we still think it's a solid deal.
