The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape said one of its successes in the provincial elections was keeping the ANC's support below 50%.
DA provincial leader Harold McGluwa said the party remained confident it could win more votes from its traditional strongholds.
“As the Democratic Alliance, we are confident we will see better statistics here. We believe the vote total will flip by over 300 votes. We are confident that in the David Kruper and ZFM areas, and in Francis Bird, which is a DA stronghold, there are a large number of VDs who are not yet voting for the Democratic Alliance,” he said.
“As of 8 o'clock today we are expecting close to 30 per cent approval rating but we expect that to change. The ANC's approval rating is below 50 per cent in the province and that is what we want and are working hard to get below 50 per cent in the province,” Gurwa said.

Patriotic Alliance
Meanwhile, the Patriotic Alliance (PA) in the Northern Cape says it was surprised by its performance in the provincial elections.
The PA is fourth among party leadership committees voting for state assembly seats.
Results have already been declared in 680 of the state's 730 constituencies.
The John Taolo Gaetsewe area, an EFF and ANC stronghold, remains unresolved.
“Palestinian Authority Provincial Chairperson Cape Renate Benjamin said she was very pleased with the results. She did not expect such great numbers. I am a little concerned about the turnout. If you look at the constituencies that are still outstanding, I don't think it will be a big lift for us because it is an autonomous region of Jamaica and we don't have a big base there. But we are waiting for Sol Plaatie's results for the constituencies that are still outstanding.”
