Academy Award nominee Antonio Banderas said he remains eager to reprise his role as Zorro if offered.
Banderas played the role of Alejandro Murietta, aka Zorro, in 1998's The Mask of Zorro and 2005's The Legend of Zorro. Both films received positive reviews and grossed nearly $400 million internationally.
Banderas is ready to pass Zorro's mantle
In an interview with Comicbook.com, the 62-year-old actor said he would be open to playing Zorro in a new series of movies, but mainly wants to pass the role on to the next actor.
In the first film, The Mask of Zorro, Don Diego de la Vegas, played by Anthony Hopkins, passes the role of Zorro to Alejandro Murietta, played by Banderas.

“I'll consider that possibility. Why not?” Banderas said last year, “During an interview today, I think I said something like that to someone. If they call it 'Zorro'… “I said if they called me, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did in the first movie and pass the torch to someone else.”
In 2021, Banderas told USA Today that he was approached by director Quentin Tarantino about a crossover between his 2012 film Django Unchained and the Zorro series.

“He came up to me and I said, 'In your hands? I agree! ” Banderas added.
We don't know yet if we'll get another Zorro movie
“Because Quentin has this quality of making those types of movies and giving them quality. You can make something really interesting,” Banderas said.
