Emergency services rescued an unconscious teenage boy from Lionshead on Saturday evening.
Western Cape Conservation Search and Rescue (WSAR) announced on Monday that emergency services had rescued an unconscious teenage boy at Lion's Head on Saturday evening.
WSAR was alerted by Costa Papagiorgio, president of the Friends of Lions Head Signal Hill, who said he saw the boy in a fetal position.
Papagiorgio said one trail regular said there was a party at the top and that he saw liquor bottles, a live DJ and electronic DJ equipment.
“I checked his pulse and asked a few simple questions. His friends told me he had been drinking. He may have been suffering from dehydration and heat stroke. “He was probably intoxicated,” he said.
WSAR alerted other emergency officials, including SAPS, who all responded to the scene.
“When the first rescue team reached the summit, the patient was found lying on his side. Paramedics examined and stabilized him. Once he regained consciousness and was able to stand up, the uninjured boy was placed in a harness. “He was rescued and helped slowly back down the trail,” rescuers said.
WSAR spokesperson David Knell said: “We are thankful that the young man was not injured. Our beautiful natural spaces are here to be enjoyed responsibly. We encourage all of our fellow outdoor enthusiasts to respect the environment. I want everyone to be polite and follow the rules.”
