Social Development Minister and African National Congress (ANC) NEC member Lindiwe Zulu has revealed that South Africa is now more likely than ever to form a coalition government ahead of this year's national elections. He criticized the media for reporting on the investigation.
An opinion poll conducted by the Brenthurst Foundation found that there was significant interest in a multiparty coalition combining the votes of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Action SA, Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and United Independents. It turned out that Move (UIM).
Mr Zulu said the governing ANC did not support the idea of a coalition.
she says: “The media kind of steers us into what's called coalitions. It's clear that the media has the power to cover issues and topics. It's just that you seem to be too focused on coalitions. I think a little bit about what the coalition is causing in our communities, and how we disagree and fight about issues.”
“I don't understand why people shouldn't be allowed to choose, but I don't think we should push this narrative so far into the whole coalition issue. They don't work, they cause chaos, we don't agree. , and as the ANC we have experienced what was forced upon us by the circumstances, and it doesn't work.”
Reacting to polls showing President Cyril Ramaphosa's favorability rating has fallen to 42% from 48% last year, Zulu says this is speculation.
she says: “I feel like this is not a media problem. Every time I listen to the radio or read a newspaper, I feel like the media decides that it must influence things. Besides, we have a president They're talking about a 41% drop in ratings for ANC, but it's like they're trying to get rid of the ANC to put someone else in.”
