Chile's Cristóbal del Solar posted his lowest round ever in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event Thursday with a 13-under 57 in the opening round of the event in Colombia.
Del Solar made nine birdies and two eagles at Bogota's 6,254-yard Country Club de Bogopacos to take first place on the developing Korn Ferry Tour's Astara Championship, but he fell just short of the PGA Tour level. Ta.
“It was crazy. Honestly, I didn't even know what I shot,” Del Solar said in a post on the PGA Tour's website. “I knew I was playing, obviously great… Everything just kept happening. Everything clicked.”
The 30-year-old from Viña del Mar became the first golfer to shoot a 57 in a PGA sanctioned tournament, joining American Jim Furyk in the 2016 PGA Tour Travelers Championship and Germany's Stefan in the 2016 Cone. -Breaked the 58 RBI record shared by Jaeger. Del Solar turned in an 8-under 27, matching the lowest nine-hole score in Korn Ferry history. He birdied the first and third holes and had four straight birdies before closing out the front nine with an eagle on the par-4 ninth, landing his drive within 15 feet of the hole.
“The course was definitely set up to shoot very low scores,” Del Solar said.
Del Solar started the back nine with a birdie, took an eagle on the par-5 12th, and added birdies on the 14th and 15th.
“I don't know if I was nervous or not,” the Chilean said. “I was nervous. I wanted to make more birdies.”
