A man who raped a teenage girl and then stabbed her to sleep will spend 10 years in prison.
Collins Modiezi Danzi Matlala, 24, was found guilty and sentenced in the local district court for the 2020 attack in Groblersdal, Limpopo province. In the incident, he threatened an 18-year-old woman with a knife as she walked, then dragged her into an abandoned house. Along the R579.
Provincial police spokesperson Mashudu Malavi Jangi said Matlala knew the teenager and had sent her a message asking her to accompany him to meet her brother.
On the way there, he grabbed her and dragged her to an abandoned house, where he threatened her with a knife and raped her. Malaba Jangi said Matlala “relaxed” and put a knife on the floor next to the woman, who grabbed it and stabbed her in the chest before fleeing.

Sergeant Alfred Mphahlele from Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit was in charge of the case and collared the suspect shortly after police were called to the scene.
The rapist was linked to the case through DNA.
Malavi Jangi said half of Matlala's sentence would be suspended on the condition that he not be convicted of the same offense within 10 years.
Meanwhile, the Bloemfontein District Court in the Free State sentenced inmate Jeffrey Bona (42) to life imprisonment for raping an inmate at Mangan Correctional Facility in 2021.
Local police agency spokesman Mojaref Senokaotuan said Bona raped the inmate several times before reporting the incident.
Senokaotuan said the court found no basis to reduce the sentence for Bona, who has shown no remorse for his crimes and posed a danger to the community.
“The convictions and sentences confirm the determination of the National Prosecuting Authority to continue to fight crime in all its forms, whether committed by ordinary people or those already in prison,” Senokaotuan said. said.
