The slain rapper's alias, real name Keenan Jarryd Forbes, was shot dead outside the Wish restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023. Saturday marks one year since the rapper was assassinated in public. Economic freedom fighter President Julius Malema recently questioned why the rapper's murder remains unsolved.
“We found a gun”: BHEKI CELE’s latest update on AKA’s murder case
In March last year, Bheki Cele assured the public that police were working diligently to solve the AKA murder investigation. Since then, he has shared some information about the incident, but almost a year after the rapper was murdered, no arrests have been made. This also comes after AKA's assassination was caught on CCTV.

In September 2023, The South African newspaper reported that Cele revealed that police had recovered the gun and getaway car used in the successful plot to take out the rapper. Cele informed the public that several mobile phones from the suspects were also seized by the police.
In December of last year, IOL Cele reported shedding more light on the rapper's case. he is reported to have said: [the police handling AKA’s case] I found two people who I'm sure know a lot about what happened that day. [when AKA was killed]…We know who we’re after…I’m briefed on this every day. This is a problem we cannot rest on. Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what's going on, but progress is definitely being made. ”

'Who pulled the trigger?': Julius Malema on Kiernan murder investigation
EFF leader Julius Malema appears unconvinced that police are working fast enough to solve AKA's murder. In a recent video posted on social media, the EFF president questioned why police had not found the rapper's killer, even though CCTV captured the act.
“We found a bullet. We found a car,” Malema said, mimicking Cele's previous update. “Senzeni [What must we do with that]? ” asked the politician. “What should we do with such information?” Malema continued.

“Bheki Cele just held a press conference.” [and comes] Put on your big hat and come tell us [that] He knows cars and guns. We're not interested in that. We are interested in the boy who pulled the trigger and killed a public figure on camera,” Malema said.
“A famous person was killed in front of the camera, and the whole world took notice.'' [and] To date, we have not arrested those people,” the EFF leader continued.
