I think we can all agree that what Ramaphosa's speechwriters started as a creative way to communicate 30 years of “anti-poverty policy” backfired rather spectacularly. In case you missed it, last week Ramaphosa's speechwriters created a fictional character called “Tintswalo.” Peggy was born free in 1994, minus taxpayers' 10 cents, received free medical care and lived in a state-provided home. Tintswalo's parents received a SASSA child support grant to help ease the burden.

In doing so, she was able to pay for her tuition and nutritious meals for the rest of her life. Finally, Ms Tintswalo received funding through her NSFAS to attend university and gain the qualifications that will support her throughout her life. Or rather, the story continues…
Support for Tintswalo
It turns out that Lindiwe Zulu is Tintswalo's mother, indicating that she may be related to President Cyril Ramaphosa's remarks. Well…and grandma, and aunt. As reported by The Citizen, Ms Zulu said she had seen the changes the ANC had made in her life and the lives of those around her in 30 years.

At the SONA debate, she said: “I stand here as Tintswalo’s mother. I am also an aunt and grandmother to Tintswalo. Here are Tintswalo’s grandfathers, uncles and fathers who want to ensure a better future for Tintswalo. “I was in a bad situation,” Zulu said.
ANC exceeded expectations
“We currently provide monthly regular income support to 4 million elderly people, 1 million adults and 160,000 children with disabilities. More than 13 million children from poor families. are receiving child support subsidies,” Zulu said.

Lindiwe Zulu, Tintswalo's mother, believes the ANC has lived up to and exceeded expectations in defeating the apartheid regime. She said the government has continued to pay subsidies since 1994, even during economic downturns. It is the ruling party's responsibility to ensure that “those who have nothing can have something.''
