The Kansas City Chiefs said they are “saddened by the senseless act of violence” following the shooting at the end of their Super Bowl victory parade.
One person was killed and 21 others injured in Wednesday night's incident.
Thousands of fans gathered to celebrate the Chiefs' second straight Super Bowl victory.
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone in Kansas City,” the Chiefs said in a statement.
“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the end of today's parade and rally.
“At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff, and their families are safe and well.
“We would like to thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who assisted at the scene.”
Police announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the shooting.
“Praying for Kansas City,” Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes wrote on Twitter, while teammate Travis Kelce said he was “heartbroken.”
“My heart goes out to those who came to celebrate with me, and to those affected. KC. [Kansas City]you mean the world to me,” Kelce said.
Fellow Chiefs player Charles Omenihu called for stricter gun laws in the United States.
“My prayers go out to those affected by today's parade. A time of celebration ends in tragedy,” he wrote to X.
“When will these gun laws be changed? How many more people have to die before we can say enough is enough?”
The NFL called the shooting “senseless” and said it was “deeply saddened” by the incident.
