Former South African footballer Benny McCarthy will go down as one of the greatest players this country has ever seen. McCarthy is Bafana Bafana's all-time top scorer with 31 goals. He is also the only South African player to win the UEFA Champions League. He is currently coaching Manchester United's first team and judging by how much they love him, he is doing great.
The team recently headed online to share a post thanking McCarthy, and South Africans couldn't help but gush in the comments section.

Before Thembinkosi Lorhi came along, musicians were making music about football legend Benny McCarthy.
The soccer star has achieved great results in his career and is considered one of the country's “greats.”
He now parlays his expertise into Manchester United, or Man Utd as the fans prefer.

So it was no surprise that the England team praised McCarthy online. The team shared a thank you post on Facebook.
The post was captioned “Benny'' with the South African flag and heart emojis.

Many people praised McCarthy in the comments section.
“Congratulations and best wishes to the new generation of Man Utd 1love1Fam Benny,” one person wrote, while another said:
“Child of the soil.”
“If you can't beat them, join them…well, not according to this guy Benny.” His two matches knocked United out of the UCL in 2004, but after his retirement he gave us Joined,” a third person wrote.
