I wasn't expecting that, given the obvious nods to Nikon's film past, but the Zf is a surprisingly capable video camera. Shoot up to 4K/60 using an APS-C sized sensor. If you want to use the entire sensor, you can get 4K/30. This won't wow video professionals, but again, it's more than enough for most photographers who just want the ability to shoot 4K footage.
Overall, I love shooting with the Zf and if I were to buy a new camera, this is the camera I would buy. That said, there's very little I really dislike about Zf. First is the card slot. There are two of them. One is a standard SD card slot that supports UHS II cards. The second is a microSD card slot that only supports UHS I. I can live with the slow speed, but the microSD card is very difficult to insert and remove, so I ended up leaving it inserted and treating it as an emergency overflow. There should be two matching full-size SD card slots.
Another thing I completely dislike is that it doesn't come with a battery charger. For a $2,000 camera, you don't need to buy a separate battery charger (retail price is less than $80). Can be charged via USB-C port. Battery life is very good, giving you around 350 shots on a single charge, and even more if you turn on energy saving mode (mine was 407). However, a serious photographer always needs another charger and at least his second battery.
As I mentioned above, Zf is not my top choice for sports or wildlife. That's partly due to autofocus and shooting speed, but also because the 24-megapixel sensor, while sharp, is capable of producing typical Nikon colors, which probably isn't what wildlife or sports professionals are looking for. The Z7, and especially the Z9, has a much higher megapixel sensor and faster autofocus, making it the perfect camera for these use cases.
Although Nikon didn't send it to me, I think the ideal lens for this camera is probably the new Nikkor Z 40mm f/2 Special Edition ($310). This may be a personal bias, but this camera calls for a short fixed length lens, a fast 50 lens, or in this case a 40 lens. This lens balances well with the camera and is suitable for reportage and street photography setups. Both seem like ideal use cases for Zf.
