Grant Holloway extended his winning streak in the 60 meter hurdles to 10 years and improved his men's world record to 7.27* in sensational style at the U.S. Indoor Championships in Albuquerque on Friday (16th).
Tia Jones also made 60m hurdles history by equaling the women's world record of 7.67* set by Devin Charlton of the Bahamas on Sunday in New York.
Both performances were achieved in the heat. Jones won the national title with a 7.68, but Holloway did not compete in the final.
Holloway's mark is 0.02 less than the world record he set in Madrid on February 24, 2021, and the following year at the World Indoor Championships semi-finals in Belgrade.
The three-time world champion in the 110-meter hurdles has completed sub-7.40 in the 60-meter hurdles 23 times. Five of them have been recorded this year alone, and no player in history has reached double digits.
Holloway ran a time of 7.35 seconds in Boston on February 4th and 7.32 seconds in Libin six days later.
For Jones, times of 7.67 and 7.68 followed his Boston winning PR of 7.72. The 2018 World U20 100m Hurdles Champion also scored a 7.79 in New York.
Her 7.67 matches the most recently set world record, while her 7.68 matches the second all-time record, behind Susanna Kallur's 2008 world record.
In addition to the national title, the athletes are competing in Albuquerque for a spot on the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow 24 next month. Holloway has earned a wildcard spot in Glasgow following his 2023 World Indoor Tour win.
