Golf superstar Tiger Woods said Saturday he is feeling better, a day after withdrawing due to illness during the second round of the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club.
“I want to confirm that I had to miss the Genesis Invitational due to an illness, which we now know is the flu,” Woods said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“I'm feeling better after resting. I wish the players the best of luck this weekend.”
Tournament organizer Woods has not played in an official U.S. PGA Tour event since withdrawing from the rain-delayed third round of the Masters last April.
Two weeks later, he underwent surgery on his right ankle to alleviate lingering pain from injuries sustained in a 2021 car accident.
Woods said this week that he feels the effects of those injuries and multiple back surgeries “every day,” so when he saw Woods being carried off the course in the middle of a round on Friday, he immediately suspected the injuries were to blame. There was widespread concern.
But longtime business partner Rob McNamara said Friday that Woods began experiencing flu-like symptoms Thursday night and was dehydrated.
He received IV treatment on site before departing the course.
