Free State – The African National Congress (ANC) has acknowledged that the impact of load shedding is hampering South Africa's economic growth.

Party members touched on the country's energy crisis during the ANC's economic dialogue on economic reform and energy security in the Manganese region on Friday, January 6. The event was held as part of a strengthening program for the ruling party's 111th anniversary.

The ANC said it was looking for solutions to deal with the rolling blackouts and was consulting with experts to find a permanent solution. During the event, ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member Mamoloko Kubai discussed the impact of load shedding. SABC News report.

Kubai said large companies and major chains are starting to feel the pressure from offloading-related issues. She cited the Wimpy store as an example, where she said some people were unable to pay rent due to the additional costs of generators and fuel.

The ANC NEC member said the power outage was affecting society as a whole. She added that the ANC could not continue to turn a blind eye without finding a solution.
