Sibanye-Stillwater has embarked on the transformation of Brakpan Precious Metals Refinery (PMR) into a dynamic training hub tailored specifically for young people in Ekurhuleni. This initiative is a vital step in harnessing the region's potential by providing valuable skills and opportunities for young people.
With this visionary initiative, Sibanye-Stillwater is not only redefining the purpose of its infrastructure, but also paving the way to a brighter future for young people in the Ekurhuleni region.
The training hub was launched in partnership with Forge Academy & Labs, an education organization focused on training students for careers that rely on next-generation technology.
Its pedagogy is modeled on Finnish pedagogy and aims to enable young people to actively participate and perform in the labor market and build impactful and successful careers in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. I'll make it. We are a SETA accredited academy and have established relationships with the best national and international partners to provide high quality, proven technology and learning content to our clients and students.
The training center begins with two 12-month programs offering Amazon Web Services certification courses including business analysis and community building.
“Being able to offer this kind of training to people without having to go to places like Sandton, Randburg or Pretoria is revolutionary. These qualifications are in your community, so you don't have to travel far.” said Tariq Shurmah, COO of Forge Academy.
The initiative forms part of PMR's Community Youth Development and Empowerment Programme, with a cohort of 10 students for each course drawn from the local communities of Mzumbe/Leadville, Wright Park and Kwa Mukankwa.
The Forge Academy program is more than just a series of workshops. It is a platform for collaboration and shared learning.
Amazon Web Services with Business Analytics
In this course, students earn international and regional certifications. The Business Analysis component is rated to her NQF Level 5 and accredited through MICT SETA.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an international cloud practitioner certification.
Forge Academy is perhaps the first training organization in South Africa to combine AWS and Business Analytics certification into one course. This gives graduates the advantage of being able to analyze data in the cloud and share relevant insights with colleagues.
community construction
This comprehensive program allows participants to gain hands-on experience across a variety of disciplines, including bricklaying, plumbing and electrical wiring. One of the objectives is to provide course participants with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of construction.
Graduates of the course will receive a full SETA accredited qualification.
With an extremely high graduate employability rate, Forge Academy's blend of practical and theoretical learning undoubtedly delivers results for students and their employers.
Forge co-founder and CEO Craig Clutty congratulated the students who applied to the program and passed the rigorous selection process, saying: You guys are pioneers. You are the architect of Africa's future, an innovator who is leveraging technology to transform the continent. The road ahead will be difficult, but it is in the difficulties that we will find our greatest opportunities.
“In conclusion, let’s make this journey one of discovery, innovation and impact. Support from Sibanye-Stillwater is a great gift, but how you use this opportunity will determine the legacy you leave for Africa and the world.” It will decide.”
