Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Gareth Edwards may be the director of the upcoming Jurassic World movie.
According to a report from THR, Edwards is in talks to direct after previously collapsing with David Leitch, the filmmaker behind films such as John Wick, Deadpool 2, and Super Express. It is said that there is. Universal and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners are reportedly working “rapidly” to decide on creative appointments, especially considering the July 2, 2025 release date has already been announced. “It's moving.”
If the deal goes through, Edwards will return to producing films for the franchise. He also directed the 2014 Godzilla reboot before starring in the acclaimed Star Wars spinoff in 2016. His latest film was this summer's sci-fi blockbuster The Creator, his first original film since his 2010 debut Monsters.
“I had no intention of doing IP,” Edwards said in an interview last year. “If I had a career, I would honestly think about what I would do with it, coming up with my ideas one after the other. And then I would teleport directly to the Super Bowl finals and play Godzilla. I was offered something amazing, like winning the lottery, to play a character.”
The new Jurassic World movie was first released in January and was written by David Koepp, who co-wrote the screenplay for the original 1993 Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. . Spielberg will also serve as executive producer through Amblin Entertainment.
Little else is known about the new Jurassic World, including its official title. But what we do know is that it's said to be a fresh take on the series, with new characters. As such, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard from Jurassic World are not scheduled to return, as are Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern from the original trilogy.
