Australian center Larakai Foketty was rushed to hospital on Thursday after sustaining a neck injury during training with the New South Wales Waratahs ahead of the Super Rugby Pacific season.
The 29-year-old, a member of the Wallabies' 2023 World Cup squad, was treated by paramedics on the sideline after being injured in the ruck before being taken by ambulance.
Waratahs coach Darren Coleman told local media that Fokety had feeling in his fingers but the full extent of his injury was unknown.
“The New South Wales Waratahs can confirm that center Larakai Fokety sustained a neck injury during practice today,” the club said in a statement.
“The club is awaiting the results of the test and Foketti's family are accompanying him to the hospital. Club representatives will be on hand throughout the day to provide support.”
The injury occurred just days before the Waratahs' season-opening Super Rugby match against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
Fokety was scheduled to start at inside center alongside fellow Wallaby Isaiah Perese.
