In commemoration of the university's 100th anniversary Hawaii A band, about 150 saxophonists, played the Star-Spangled Banner; Hawaii Ponoi in front ah Men's basketball game against Long Beach State on Feb. 24 at Simplify Arena in the Stan Sheriff Center. This was also an attempt to set a world record for the national anthem played by a saxophone. Hawaii Ponoi.
“I was surprised to see saxophones ranging from 6th graders to 70 years old.This is a once-in-a-lifetime performance to commemorate the saxophones. ah Celebrating the band’s 100th anniversary,” said Gwen Nakamura. ah Manoa Band and Assistant Director of Bands ah He is an alumnus of Manoa and has performed with the group.
Nakamura said he plans to submit the video recording to Guinness World Records. Many of the musicians consisted of: ah students and graduates.
“It was very exciting to see so many saxophonists come together and make music,” Matsushita Kita said. ah Manoa 4th year music education major. “Our community Hawaii Full of energy and love for music. ”
For the performance, ah Bands affiliated with Hawaii The Saxophone Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the level of saxophone awareness and education. Hawaii.Todd Yukumoto, noted saxophonist, alumnus and long-time saxophonist ah Instructor Manoah Sachs is the president of this organization.
“What we were trying to do is raise awareness of our foundation and help celebrate our 100th anniversary. ah It was a win-win for both of us because we are two bands,” Yukimoto said. “We want to build a community of saxophonists, and we're working on it slowly. But by hosting events like this, we can bring this event into the public eye.”
