Five South African players have been named in this year's squad for the ongoing Six Nations tournament, which has just reached its halfway point in the Northern Hemisphere tournament.
As well as being a breeding ground for local stars, South Africa is also known as a production line for foreigners, using World Rugby's residency laws to sign South African-born players.
Big lock Paul Willemse has returned to the French national team, but it's the Bucks' Scottish national team who really have a strong 'Safa' vibe. Duhan van der Merwe and Kyle Stein joins forwards WP Nel and Pierre Schoeman.
However, a quick look at this list shows that van der Merwe is likely to be the only 'Safa' who will feature for the Springboks in his current form.
The powerful winger weighs 105kg and stands 1.93m tall, and despite his large size, he boasts the speed of a racehorse.
George's alma mater, the University of Pretoria, scored an incredible hat-trick of tries last weekend to ensure Scotland's place in the Calcutta Cup against England.
Six Nations star will definitely fit into the Springboks' system
Van der Merwe played all of his junior rugby in South Africa, earning several caps with the Bulls and Junior Springboks.
However, he then moved abroad and signed for the first time with Scottish club Edinburgh in 2017. Van der Merwe became available to Scotland's Test squad in 2020 and has gone on to make over 35 appearances since then.
Given his strength, size, mobility and X-factor, there is little doubt that the big man will be a strong consideration for the Springboks if he is still available.
The Springboks have a wealth of wingers in Cheslyn Kolbe, Makazole Mapimpi and Kurt-Lee Arendse, but a player like Van der Merwe poses a completely unique threat with his physicality and power. There is no doubt about it.
All things considered, the Six Nations and Scotland superstar will definitely be a regular for Matchday 23 for the Springboks on his current form.
