Bongani Zungu I am reaching my best form, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena I believe his display was great.
Zungu was on fire after defeating AmaZulu on Tuesday and Mokwena was pleased with the midfielder's performance and experience.
The lanky Sundowns star's influence on Mokwena's Sundowns side is incredible and he is proud to praise his exploits.
Zungu has shown that he can play in a variety of roles, performing in a masterclass from the centre-back role, which requires technical ability.
The 31-year-old has played a key role as a playmaker and his physical attributes have been recognized by coaches as he leads Sundowns.
Why Mokwena is impressed by Big Boi Zungu's influence
Zungu also provided an assist for Lucas Ribeiro, who scored a hat-trick against Usuthu as Sundowns went on a 40-game unbeaten run.
“You know, sometimes we think things [of a new role] But first we need the talent of the players,” says Mokwena, praising the achievements of big boy Zungu.
“And Bongs has it technically, tactically. He's a big boy, very experienced, very tactically savvy, knows when to step in, when to take over. There is.
“And he believes in his coach, which is important, sometimes he can come up with the best ideas.”
“It might be the worst idea, but players can make it the best idea.
“And they may be total scumbags, but the players believe in you so much that they blindly follow their techniques.”
Sundowns boss demands more from big boy Zungu
Mokwena's sentiments suggest Zungu will need to adapt to his new role at Sundowns.
Mokwena has suggested that big boy Zungu could play as a centre-back in the absence of Rivaldo Coetzee at Sundowns.
“So, a lot of credit to him. He made us forget about Riva a little bit,” added Mokwena, praising Zungu.
“We tried him in that position a little bit and he did very well.
“It's the players who decide the tactics. You can tell by looking at the players.
“Does he have the profile to do certain things or can he be next on the line?
“Can he see and defend his goal?”
“Does he have that calmness and security? Some players don't like to turn their backs on their own goal, but Bongz has that.
“That's important for defenders, especially if you're defending 40, 50 meters back.
“And he believed that and brought out the best in himself and made a great assist for the third goal.
“In Mauritania, he was in the box twice and he was in the box once.” [against AmaZulu].
“He came in from center back all the way. I'm very proud of him.”
