FIFA has introduced a new ranking tool to show which teams currently qualify for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and Mamelodi Sundowns look to be on track.
The new expanded format of the Club World Cup will begin in 2025 with 32 teams, including four from the Confederation of African Football.
FIFA has confirmed that three African teams will qualify through the Champions Pathway and one through the Rankings Pathway. As past winners of the CAF Champions League, Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic Club have already reserved their spots, while the winners of the CAF Champions League for the 2023/24 season will also qualify.
If Al Ahly or Wydad win the current CAFCL again, the top two teams will be promoted through the ranking route as Al Ahly won in 2021 and 2023 and results from 2021 to 2024 will be taken into account. Qualify to participate.
Sundowns are currently the third-highest ranked team behind Al Ahly and Wydad, eight points ahead of Esperance de Tunis and 28 points ahead of Petro de Luanda.
Sundowns can qualify by winning the current CAF Champions League or remaining among the top-flight teams other than the last three winners of the CAFCL.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be held in the United States from June 15th to July 13th. The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four teams each, with the top two teams qualifying for the knockout stage.
Current CAF ranking:
*Kaizer Chiefs, who are ranked 11th in the CAF rankings, have no chance of participating in the 2025 Club World Cup as they have not participated in any CAF inter-club competitions this season.
