Saudi Arabia has launched its official bid to host the 2034 World Cup. The race was effectively formalized last October, when oil-rich Saudi Arabia was the only candidate to participate.
Saudi Arabia on Friday launched its official bid campaign to host the 2034 World Cup. The race was effectively formalized last October, when oil-rich Saudi Arabia was the only candidate to participate.
The Saudi Football Federation has a campaign logo of two multi-colored ribbons forming the number “34'' with the bid slogan “Grow. Together''.
The logo is “designed to capture the essence of Saudi Arabia's young nation, vibrant society and rich heritage,” the federation said.
FIFA is expected to decide on Saudi Arabia as the host country by the end of 2024 in an uncontested vote among its 211 member federations. The date and venue of the vote have not been announced.
The bid did not reveal any new details about the host city or stadium for the 48-team tournament, which is scheduled to be held in November-December 2034.
Saudi Arabia is currently aiming to host the tournament on its own, although some matches could later be co-hosted with neighboring and neighboring countries.
The first 48-team Men's World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
The 2030 tournament will primarily be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with one match each awarded to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, the first host country in 1930. These plans also need to be formally approved this year.
By pinning Africa, Europe and South America together in 2030, FIFA could limit the 2034 venue to bidders from Asia and Oceania, and Saudi Arabia's victory was all but certain.
