John Okafor health issues
Last October, Okafor underwent a series of surgeries due to his ongoing illness.
His daughter released a statement on Instagram, revealing about his health issues and also appealing for donations.
“Dad underwent seven successful surgeries, but in order to keep him alive and have a better chance of recovery, we had to have one of his legs amputated. This development is difficult for all of us, but In order to stay alive, I had to accept that as my dad's new reality.
“Please, we continue to ask for support from well-meaning Nigerians as this stage is still very delicate and he needs all the help he can get,” the statement read. .
In December, the family released another statement addressing rumors circulating about his health on social media.
His family has revealed that only one of his legs was amputated due to complications related to blood clotting and other health issues, rather than diabetes as widely speculated.
“We would like to correct some misconceptions that are circulating on social media regarding our father's current health condition. Firstly, our father did not have both legs amputated, only one leg was amputated. I would like to tell you what I did.
“The first amputation didn't fully improve his health predicament, so doctors had to amputate more of the same leg to save him.
“Dad's illness is not caused by diabetes either, but he has blood clots in his legs (diseased blood vessels) and other health issues that put his life at risk. Therefore, amputation will be necessary. .”
