The veteran goalkeeper has returned to the team after serving a suspension for allegedly attending a training session under the influence of alcohol. Itumeleng Khune was stripped of his captaincy in December.
Chiefs' website states: “Itumeleng Khune, Kaizer Chiefs' longest-serving player, has joined the team after parting ways with his team-mates to meet certain conditions before being allowed to return to the Villages.'' He has returned,” the statement read.
“Mr. Kuhne was suspended in early December to allow him the opportunity to complete a remedial program to meet certain expectations of being a professional athlete,” the statement added.
“Upon completion of the program, a report was received from an independent professional body and shared with the technical team to certify that he had done everything necessary,” the statement continued.
The 36-year-old also recently took to social media to share some positive words with his fans.
“Don't fall back into habits or situations that didn't help you evolve. You need to keep reminding yourself why you decided to move forward. By being consistent with the changes now, you'll be better able to do so in the future.” Stay positive about what will happen,” he wrote.
Afterwards, several fans were divided on social media. Meanwhile, other Kaizer Chiefs supporters expressed their high expectations for Saturday's Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.
