Wales were forced to make a late change ahead of Sunday's Six Nations clash with France, with hooker Ryan Elias ruled out with a hamstring problem and Elliot Dee starting.
Elias, 29, suffered the problem during his final training session at Principality Stadium on Saturday.
Dee, 30, could lead Wales against Cardiff as he bids to win his 50th cap.
Uncapped Cardiff hooker Evan Lloyd has been promoted to the substitutes bench.
Elias started against Scotland and was given the number two shirt by Dee in the defeats against England and Ireland.
Scarlets hooker Elias was initially recalled to the starting XI against France before his injury problems arose.
Dewi Lake was also injured and recently converted hooker Lloyd, who had never made a professional start in his new position, was a surprise addition to the Six Nations squad.
Lloyd, 22, was preferred over more established options such as Sam Parry, Bradley Roberts and Liam Belcher.
He played as a number eight for Wales Under-20s before making the switch while in Cardiff's academy.
Lloyd played for Cardiff RFC's semi-professional side before making his senior debut against the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship in November 2023.
He made six substitute appearances for Cardiff. Lloyd could earn his first Wales cap in this Six Nations, along with Cardiff team-mates Cameron Wynnett, Alex Mann and Mackenzie Martin.
Wales are at the bottom of the tournament with three losses so far.
