Apple will lay off more than 700 employees across the company, including its MicroLED display division and the recently shuttered Apple Car project. 9to5Mac reports: Layoffs are impacting projects that have been in the news lately, as revealed in 9to5Mac's latest WARN report from the California Employment Development Department. For example, Apple will fire his 58 employees from one of his offices in Santa Clara. This particular office belonged to LuxVue Technology, a company specializing in Micro-LED displays that Apple acquired in his 2014. In recent months, we've heard rumors that Apple is scrapping plans to design and manufacture its own Micro-LED display for the Apple Watch. . Bloomberg recently reported that Apple abandoned the project because the screens were “difficult to produce in sufficient quantities.”
Apple has also filed more than 120 termination notices in San Diego, which coincides with reports in January that the company recently closed its Siri data operations office there. The office was responsible for evaluating Siri's responses to users and helping improve the accuracy of the company's platform. At the time, Apple offered to move to an office in Austin, Texas, if all affected employees agreed. Unsurprisingly, the closure of the Apple Car project (known internally as Titan) also resulted in layoffs. Some of the offices listed in the records were used by Apple to develop and test electric vehicles. The company has been actively working on manufacturing the car since 2014, but abandoned the project earlier this year due to challenges surrounding it. The report notes that some of the engineers working on the Apple Car have been offered positions elsewhere at Apple. “But he had over 2,000 people working on this particular project, so not everyone will have the opportunity to be redeployed.”
The latest rumor is that Apple is considering developing a personal home robot.
