Dyson has mastered air manipulation, and WIRED writer Brenda Storier loves it (8/10, WIRED Recommends), saying it cuts the time she spends styling her hair in half. Instead of a hot plate, Airstrait uses airflow to dry and straighten hair all at once. You can also close and lock the plate and use it as just a hair dryer, its straightening ability is great. It depends on your hair type, but you may have to try it on wet or damp hair to see if it works best for you. Also available in a super cute limited edition rose gold color.
T3 makes great hair tools and this flat iron is one of them. It uses what T3 calls his HeatID technology, which sets the temperature based on your hair's texture, length, and whether it's color-treated. Refresh mode allows you to touch up already straightened hair at a lower temperature based on previous settings. It's small but mighty.
I've been testing this iron for the past few weeks and it's become one of my favorite irons. This is a classic that I've somehow never tried before, but it straightens course curls quickly and seriously. He has five temperature settings, but the button is located where you want your hand to rest, so you often end up changing the temperature by mistake.
You will either love or hate this iron from the popular tool brand GHD. There's no heat control, so it's always 365 degrees Fahrenheit. This is great for some hair types and can straighten some hair in one pass and prevent it from frying unnecessarily, but it can also be used for coarse or curly hair. This can be difficult with hair.
Similar to Dyson's Airstrait, the GHD Duet uses air to dry and smooth your hair. Depending on your hair type, this step alone can give you a pin-straight style. However, if you need more help straightening your hair, you should wait until your hair is completely dry before turning on the hot plate. This means it may take a little longer than the Dyson, but it saves you from having to have two tools.

WIRED contributor Victoria Woollaston-Webber says this is one of the best hair dryers she's tried, quickly drying her hair and leaving it shiny without burning her scalp. However, the buttons are located where you want your hands to move, so you may end up changing settings while styling.
The Dyson Supersonic is a solid hair dryer with accessories like a wide comb and flyaway smoother. It may also shorten drying time. But there's no need to spend $400 on a dryer unless you really want to miss out on money. Like Airstrait, it also comes in a lovely rose color.
Versions for curly and coiled hair are also discounted to the same price. This model took a little longer to dry my hair than his HyperAir from the same brand, but it worked well and took up less space. The RapidGloss Finisher attachment did the impossible and actually tamed some of my frizz.
We haven't tested this dryer, but we're including it here because we generally love and trust T3 tools. I tried the Aireluxe, which was super lightweight and worked well, but it didn't have a diffuser. This looks pretty much the same, but it's more compact and comes with a diffuser and other attachments that you may have missed. If you want something light, it might be worth a try.
Great deals on hair irons
Don't see anything here that catches your eye? Check out all of our favorite curling irons for every budget.
T3's Switch Kit is at the top of our list of best curling irons. There are 3 barrels in one handle to achieve different styles. It comes with 0.5″ and 1.25″ wands and a 1.5″ clip barrel. If you don't need something as small as half an inch, use the Wave Trio to replace the 1 inch cane.
There are recommendations for cheaper wands, but we like the SinglePass because it has a tapered barrel that goes from 0.75 inches to 1.3 inches. You can give your long hair beachy waves and create small curls around your face.
GHD fans will love this curling iron with a 1-inch barrel that can be used on short or long hair. Because it uses a clamp, it takes some getting used to if you primarily use the wand, but we recommend testing it with the clamp off to get used to the movement. It also has a cool, larger tip than other products we've tried, so you can safely control the tool without burning your fingers.
Great deals on blow dry brushes and multi tools
If you've been eyeing the Dyson Airwrap but don't feel like spending the money, you don't have to. Her FlexStyle by Shark (9/10, WIRED Recommended) is about the same, allowing you to dry, blow-dry, and curl your hair. The Airwrap barrel held the hair together a little better, but it was manageable considering the money I saved. The curly, coiled hair strands come with a diffuser.
Want a Dyson instead of a Shark? This set comes with a new barrel that allows you to create curls in both directions instead of requiring two barrels. A large barrel for long hair. There are also other curling tools such as combs and diffusers. We also have bundles and accessories available, including a long barrel without curly tools and regular sets in rose gold, blue, and orange.
I have so much hair that I don't know how to use a blow dry brush effectively, but people love them. This one is from a brand we like and comes with both paddle and round brush attachments to suit the style you're trying to achieve.
This hot brush made it onto our list of best curling irons because it's meant to lift and add volume to your roots, but it also allows you to easily create waves and tight curls. Like other of his GHD products, the setting is 365 degrees only.
You've probably seen Revlon's blow dry brush on social media. The latest version is great at a fraction of this price, but our tester found that the Double Shot left her hair smoother and straighter. Given the small airflow opening, a little more work was needed.
