Ryan Longman's stunning win against Millwall means stuttering promotion challengers Leicester have lost five of their nine Championship games.
Longman collected a pass from Billy Mitchell, cut in from the left past Harry Winks and fired an unstoppable shot from near the edge of the penalty area past keeper Mads Hermansen and into the corner of the goal.
The victory took Millwall to 47 points and moved them four places out of the relegation zone. They have picked up 10 points from four home games since manager Neil Harris recently returned for a second time as manager.
Meanwhile, leaders Leicester remained at the top of the table thanks to Leeds' only goalless draw at home to Sunderland.
Leeds now move into second place, with Ipswich dropping to third, but the Suffolk side will move into the top spot if they win at home to Watford on Wednesday.
Leicester dominated the ball for long periods in the Den, especially in the first half, but struggled to create clear chances.
However, substitute Patson Daka should have equalized late in stoppage time, but his attempted header from Dennis Prato's cross failed. The ball bounced off his shoulder and went out of bounds.
Millwall struggled under former manager Joe Edwards, who tried to introduce an expansive style of play, but was sacked in February after a series of poor results and performances.
Meanwhile, former Lions striker Harris has gone back to basics, deploying a 4-4-2 formation and relying on hard work and good organization. His team managed to frustrate the visitors.
Millwall defended well both in front of Longman's goal and a win at home to Cardiff City on Saturday would take them to the 50-point mark, which would normally be enough points to keep them there.
Leicester are scheduled to visit Plymouth, another relegation-threatened team, on Friday. The Foxes are currently winless in five away games.
