Gauteng police announced on Wednesday that six people have been arrested in connection with the murder and hijacking of Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleur.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mabela Masondo said they were tracked down and arrested in Sloboville, Soweto, in the early hours of the morning.
Masondo said Fleur's vehicle, which had already been stripped, was recovered on Monday.
Fleur, 24, was killed last week when her red VW Golf 8 GTI was hijacked while she stopped at a gas station on the corner of 14th Street and Hendrick Potgieter Drive.
Mr Masondo said at the time he encountered two armed men driving a white BMW 1 Series.
News24 reported that the men pointed guns at Fleur, ordered her to get out of the car and shot her in the upper body.
One of the men left in Fleur's car, and the other followed in a BMW.
Masondo said a team led by Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Major-General Mbuso Khumalo worked around the clock to ensure the suspects were arrested.
“Police believe the suspects are part of a syndicate that carried out car hijackings in Gauteng and the search for further suspects continues,” he said.
The suspects are due to appear in Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday.
