- A man who raped his daughter was sentenced to life in prison.
- A 38-year-old man told his teenage daughter not to report the rape because she would be arrested.
- The man's name will be added to the National Sex Offender Registry.
Verulam District Court has sentenced the man who raped his daughter to life imprisonment.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson Kara said a 38-year-old man raped his 13-year-old teenage daughter at her home in Verulam in January 2020.
The incident occurred when the girl's brother and stepmother were at home. Ramkisson-Karla said the two were sleeping in separate rooms.
The man asked the girl not to report the incident because she would be arrested.
Ramkisson Kara said the girl told her stepmother and biological mother, who then notified authorities.
Ramkisson-Kala said the girl was receiving counseling at the Tuthuzela Center in Phoenix.

She said a victim impact report filed in court detailed how she had been affected by the rape, which she described as “embarrassing”.
The man maintains his innocence and denies the charges.
However, evidence from the girl's stepmother and a J88 medical form revealed evidence of rape.
“Evidence of a J88 form detailing the injuries sustained by the girl and a doctor's statement were also submitted to the court.
“The girl said in her statement that she loved her father very much and could not believe that he had raped her. She said the incident had left her ashamed and traumatized and had lost her confidence.”・Kara said. .
The court ordered the man's name added to the National Sex Offenders Registry and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
Ramkisson Kara said the NPA welcomed the prosecution.
“The National Police Agency congratulates the successful prosecution. We hope that a verdict like this will serve as a deterrent to like-minded people,” she said.
