JORDAN, MN —The Wagner family has owned the property, located just off Highway 169 near Jordan, for 45 years.
Through the sale of apples, pumpkins, and pumpkins, and 19 additions to the building, it's clear that the focus is candy, even earning the title of “Minnesota's Largest Candy Store.”
“We're 27,000 square feet under one roof,” said owner Robert Wagner.
But Wagner has even bigger goals. That's 2.5 times.
“We have significantly outgrown our 27,000-square-foot lot,” he said.
The store will be rebuilt not far from its current location, across from 169 near Jordan Supper Club.
What is the reason for the move? Highway construction. An overpass over Route 169 is planned near the current building.
Wagner said the overpass would completely cut off freeway access to the current store.
“Having that impulsive customer is important, and losing direct access to 169 takes away that,” Wagner said.
Wagner said he intends to acquire the site for the new store in a land-swap agreement with Scott County. Instead, the site of Wagner's old candy store would be used for the new overpass.
Assuming all goes according to plan, the current store is expected to close in 2026 and the new store will be completed a year later.
“This does not mean the deal is 100% complete,” Wagner said. “I would say we have a very solid gentleman's agreement. There's a firm handshake as well.”
We have a new goal: to become the world's largest candy store.
“What we're trying to do is continue to be the largest candy store in Minnesota, but know that we're also the largest in the world,” Wagner said.
The store is scheduled to reopen for the season at its current location on May 1st.
