In recognition of his comedic talent, legendary South African comedian Mark Lotharing has been honored with a prestigious Hall of Fame award at the 2024 Savannah Comics Choice Comedy Awards.
The 11th annual prestigious award was held last Saturday, April 13th at the Lyrical Theater in Gold Reef City.

“It’s been a long road” – Mark
Mark reflected on his impressive 23 years in the industry and expressed the gratitude of his colleagues and the entire comedy community.
he said citizen: “It's amazing to be inducted into the Hall of Fame tonight. I've been doing this job for 23 years, it's been a long journey, and this thank you is just amazing.
“I wanted to be cool tonight, but all that coolness goes away when you walk into this space, because it's really nice to be recognized by your peers.”
Mark acknowledged the importance of awards for up-and-coming comedians, stressing that while accolades are meaningful, they shouldn't completely define a person's career.
“I don't think awards define your career. I've been doing this for over 20 years and this is my first comic choice at home. So people need to be reminded of that. I think there is.
“Awards don't define your career, but when you win an award, celebrate. But it shouldn't change who you are or what you do, because tomorrow you'll be putting pen to paper again.'' I pick it up and get back to work.”

While Mark basked in the glory of his recognition, other comedians also shined at the ceremony.
Vafa Narangi emerged as one of the night's biggest winners, winning both the Breakthrough Act of the Year award and the coveted Source of the Year award.
Additionally, Mpho Pops won the title of Comedian of the Year, while Sifiso Nene won the Joe Mafela Award and Best Solo Show Award for 'Baby Mama Drama'.
