Last week, I closely followed the news, analysis and commentary on the Electoral Tribunal's ruling overturning the South African Electoral Commission's (IEC) previous decision that former President Jacob Zuma was ineligible to stand in parliamentary elections. As a result of being found guilty of contempt of court in 2021.
In response to the decision to ban Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK), the political party formed in 2023 and led by Zuma, from participating as a parliamentary candidate in the May 29 elections based on Article 47(1). After an appeal, the Electoral Tribunal made this decision. (e) of the Constitution.
