After the tragic loss of a double murder in his family, singer Craig Lucas was able to turn tragedy into victory.Cape Town Singer – Winner of Season 2 The Voice SA – Graduated with a Master’s degree in Development from the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
In 2022, the award-winning star's brother and sister-in-law were allegedly murdered by his teenage son. Craig has also been open about his mental health struggles over the years.

This week, Craig Lucas graduated from UWC with a master's degree.
In a video posted to the university's TikTok account, the singer said:[but] Today is about enjoying and celebrating the present. ”
He praised the staff and lecturers as “kind and helpful”, adding: “This is not the last time you will see me at UWC.”
In a Facebook post, the singer revealed that his thesis was based on the aspirations of children living in the community of Bonteheuwel in the Western Cape.
He also elaborated on the challenges faced.
He said: “I grew up in the Clark Estate on Elsies River. This story mirrors that of many other parts of the Cape Flats, marked by poverty, crime, gangs, drug abuse and violence. Somehow. I was able to get through it.”

He continued: “If you grow up in poverty, you are poor by definition. Poverty is not just a lack of material necessities; it is also a lack of the social, emotional, and necessary needs to thrive in society. It also takes away your psychological resources. It deeply shapes who you become.
“Yes, I succeeded. And I went up.” But it's not because I'm particularly special or intelligent. But I was lucky because I had people in my life who could support me physically, financially and emotionally. I was also lucky to meet people who gave me great opportunities.
“Yes, I worked hard and made sacrifices, but research in Bonteheuvel shows that most kids living in apartments would work just as hard if given the chance and support. I knew it would work.
“Unfortunately, many people will never get that opportunity.”
