Brighton's own goal gave Everton a 2-1 victory in the Women's Super League as the Toffees moved closer to securing top flight safety.
Everton winger Aurora Galli took advantage of some confusion at the back before Guro Bergswand slotted the ball into his own net.
In a tense match in which neither goalkeeper was under too much pressure, the first goal was not produced until the hour mark.
Everton took the lead through a combination of twins Karen and Sarah Holmgaard, with substitute Karen curling a cross past Sophie Baggaley at the back post.
However, the Toffees could not celebrate their lead for long, with Brighton equalizing just two minutes later.
After Maisie Simmons hit the crossbar with a free-kick, Tatiana Pinto smashed in the rebound, which Everton keeper Courtney Brosnan was unable to clear.
Brosnan made a vital save in the first half to prevent injured Elizabeth Terlando's shot from going into the Everton net.
Talland has scored 12 goals in the league this season but was unable to find any footing on Friday night as he was starved for service.
Both teams mostly canceled each other out in the center of the park, with chances limited to half, but it was defensive mistakes that gave Everton the chance to snatch victory.
For a while, avoiding relegation seemed like a formality, but unless bottom-placed Bristol City pick up a point against Liverpool on Saturday (12:30 CET), Everton and Brighton will will be mathematically safe by the end of the weekend.
