A close friend of DJ and comedian DJ Sambody was shot and killed early Sunday morning.
South Africa's entertainment industry is once again in shock after another DJ was shot dead. Pretoria-based DJ and comedian Peter Mashata and an unidentified passenger were driving near TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their car.
pretoria records Mashata was taken to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced dead at Acacia Hospital.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza told the media on Sunday that two men, aged 46 and 45, were involved in the shooting and that Tshwane police had filed evidence to charge them with murder and attempted murder. He said he was creating it.
Next of kin Gugulethu Ngobeni confirmed Masuhata's death in a statement on Sunday morning, asking for privacy until the family comes to terms with the shocking news.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son, uncle, brother and colleague, Peter “Mashata” Mabuse.
“The family appreciates the continued messages of support and condolences and humbly asks that you give them time to process their trauma.”
In a statement, family representatives said they would share news about both the memorial service and funeral later this week.

Musician Oupa John Sefoka, known as 'DJ Sumbody', was also killed in a hail of bullets while returning home from a gig at Johannesburg's Woodmead in November 2022. Mr Mashata officiated at the memorial service held at Levende Wood Church in Centurion, Gauteng on 23 November 2022.
In January, another close friend of DJ Sumbody, DJ Vetty, was also shot. The shooting occurred at Top Notch Lifestyle, officially known as Epiep Sunnyside. This is the same venue that was owned by DJ Sumbody. DJ Vetty was lucky to survive the shooting.
