Sero Maake Kancube was one of three celebrities to whom Trinity International Bible College awarded honorary doctorates…or so they thought.
On Saturday, the proud Sero Maake Kancube took to social media to share his newly awarded 'honorary doctorate' with his fans.
However, the veteran actor's joy was short-lived as Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande pointed out on Sunday that Trinity International Bible College has no authority to award qualifications to anyone as it is not a registered university.
The organization, which also honored actress Elisabeth Sernier and singer Winnie Mashaba, has since been warned to cease all illegal activities and regularize its operations.

Department 'very upset' after Theroux honorary doctorate scandal
The Ministry of Higher Education and Training said in a statement that it had also asked the Council for Higher Education (CHE) for guidance on how and by whom honorary doctorate qualifications should be offered.
“As a faculty, we have nothing against Trinity International Bible College or the distinguished individuals it has selected for recognition,” said Veli Mbele, a spokesperson for the faculty.
He said the ministry is “deeply disturbed by the persistent disregard of the Ministry of Higher Education's regulations by the management of Trinity International Bible College.”
“The Ministry is considering more comprehensive and decisive action against Trinity International Bible College and all other individuals or entities that continue to violate the Ministry's regulations.
“As the Ministry of Higher Education and Training, we would like to work with Trinity International Bible College and its honored luminaries to better explain our position.
“Most importantly, as the Ministry of Higher Education and Training, we have a legal responsibility to protect the integrity of qualifications and the integrity of the after-school education and training system,” Mbele concluded.
