The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party is celebrating another legal victory.
The High Court in Durban has dismissed, with costs, an application by the African National Congress (ANC) to prevent the MK party from using a name and logo similar to the disbanded ruling MK wing.
The ANC had accused the MK party of violating trademark law.
MK party members and supporters have been awaiting the verdict since early this morning.
MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo said: I am glad that it has shown that the ANC cannot fight the MK, we are unstoppable. Like it or not, you just have to forget. We are winning on cost, which is what we were looking for even before it happened, but this time we got it, so they have to pay. ”
Nqobile Zungu, speaking on behalf of the MK Party's legal team, also welcomed the judgment.
Zungu said: “As a legal team, we're really pleased with the results we've achieved from the beginning to today, and everything else. This is very exciting for us.”
MK Party KwaZulu-Natal provincial elections director Musa Mkhize said: “The people are ready to welcome Umsholozi as president on May 29. So people will know who the president is without any confusion. We know who they will vote for on May 29th. We know President Jacob Zuma will be on the ballot. We will see his face, nothing to worry about. is not necesary to.”
