Inter Milan won their 20th Italian title by defeating their arch-rivals and nearest challengers AC Milan in the historic Derby della Madonnina.
Inter took the lead from a corner kick when Francesco Acerbi headed home Benjamin Pavard's flick-on.
Marcus Thuram grabbed a long ball but took too long to cut in, sending his second goal into the bottom corner of the San Siro goal.
England's Fikayo Tomori gave Milan some brief hope with a header from close range.
Frustration boiled over and three red cards were handed out in stoppage time. The hosts finished with nine men after Milan's Theo Hernandez and Inter's Denzel Dumfries were sent off for contributing to a brawl, while captain David Calabria was sent off for violent conduct.
Although Milan were the home team in this match, Inter players and coaches rushed onto the pitch to celebrate at the final whistle on the ground shared by both teams.
The second-placed Rossoneri are 17 points behind Inter with five games remaining.
Inter could have won even more if Lautaro Martínez was without a sitter and Hakan Calhanoglu's drive was tipped over by Mike Meignan.
This is the first time in the 116-year history of the Milan Derby that they have won the Serie A title.
Inter return to first place
Inter Milan's 20th Italian title surpasses AC Milan's 19 Serie A titles and puts them second only to Juventus.
However, this is only their second title since 2010, the last time they won it in 2021 under manager Antonio Conte.
Simone Inzaghi has brought back the good times for the Nerazzurri, building on a 27-game unbeaten run in the league as they head towards the Scudetto with five games remaining.
They have scored 79 goals, 15 more than others, and conceded just 18, eight fewer than any other team.
Inter have now won the derby for the past six times, equaling the record achieved by Milan in 1911-1913 and 1946-1948.
