- A man has drowned after apparently falling off a rock into the water at Witbank Dam in Mpumalanga.
- Paramedics were called to the scene after the man failed to surface.
- The body was found at a depth of about 6 meters.
A 35-year-old Witbank man drowned after apparently falling from a rock into the water near a local restaurant at Witbank Dam in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
Police and emergency personnel from the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) were called to the scene after the man was unable to surface.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said when NSRI arrived at the scene, witnesses claimed the man may have jumped off the diving board into the water without surfacing.
“Police divers were launched into the water from an NSRI rescue vessel and during the scuba search, the man's body was discovered and recovered by police divers onto an NSRI rescue vessel,” Lambinon said.

His body was recovered by police divers at a depth of about 6 meters.
He was pronounced dead by paramedics.
“The man's body was transported by our NSRI rescue vessel.” [and] The man's body was taken under the care of police divers and NSRI crew to Witbank Yacht Aquatic Club, where police and the Government Health Forensic Pathology Service took possession of the man's body. ”
The police have started an investigation log.
