DJ Kotin, real name Siyabonga Mfuduzi Zikode, wins his first Metro FM Music Award.
The South African star won the Best Kwaito Gkom award at this year's Metro FM Awards held in Mbombela on Saturday.
Speaking to Jimoja, DJ said he deserved to win.
“I deserve it. There's no one better than me in my genre right now,” he says.
“When I make music, I always make music for the radio and I'm also intentional about the way I produce it. I always want to make music that lasts a long time,” said the DJ.
He talked about his journey with management DJ Sithelo Shozi.
“We always have to grow. I've been working with Cicero for six years as his manager, and we both decided we needed to grow.” “That's how I expand my brand as an artist and DJ,” he added.
“I felt like the industry was crowded and I wasn’t getting what I needed.”
“Cicero has retired from DJing, but I feel there are too many female DJs coming up. It's too crowded. If a female DJ doesn't even have talent, stop it. She's on to luxury brands. She's already gone. I was managing her DJ career and we sat down and talked about where she wanted to go, even if we weren't working together. It's my baby. But she continues to help me.”
