Yemen's internationally recognized government is close to a licensing deal with Elon Musk's Starlink, which provides satellite internet services to the war-torn country, a senior government official said.
The Yemeni official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the negotiations, said the government was finalizing the approvals but said it could take another month to complete. If the deal goes well, Yemen would join countries like Israel and Jordan, which are among the few countries in the Middle East that have approved the use of Starlink.
The partnership could dramatically improve internet service in Yemen, where censorship is rampant and speeds are some of the slowest in the world, according to the SpeedTest Global Index.
