Experts will be appointed to inspect the M1 Bridge over Carr Street in Johannesburg after a fire broke out in a cavity on the southbound side of the bridge on Wednesday.
The fire broke out after cable thieves cut the city's high-voltage cables running within the upper floors of the bridge.
Johannesburg Transport MMC's Kenny Kunene said he had called for an expert to be appointed to inspect the structural safety of the bridge before telling the public it was safe.
