Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen says he is confident his party will become KwaZulu-Natal's largest party after the election. He told thousands of supporters at a rally in Durban that a victory in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial election could also swing the national outcome in favor of the DA and its multiparty charter partners.
However, according to the latest poll by the Social Research Foundation, support for the African National Congress (ANC) is still below 45%, but is on the rise.
Mr Steenhuisen said the ANC was a formidable opponent in the final weeks before the election. He believes there is too much pressure on the ANC from various sides for it to defeat other parties.
“For 30 long years, we have bravely fought against insurgents to prevent the worst from happening to our beloved country. But now we are just three weeks away from making history.
On May 29th, we will defeat the ANC and rewrite history…

Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal's primary candidate for the provincial parliament, Chris Pappas, has called on his supporters to do everything in the next 18 days to secure a provincial victory. He pledged that the DA would create jobs, fight hunger and establish an independent anti-corruption and fraud unit.
