Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK Party) leader and former president Jacob Zuma has broken his silence on leadership tensions within the MK Party.
Mr Zuma was speaking at an interfaith prayer service in Durban.
This is his first involvement in the MK Party since reports of his poor health last month.
The rally was to pray for peace ahead of the general election on May 29th.
Mr Zuma criticized those within the MK party for being too concerned about positions. Now, he argues, is the time to get the country back on track and not get attached to positions.
“Some people have never seen themselves reflected in this work. And there's also the question of why they were left out. We're not doing this to go to Congress. We're not doing this to go to Congress. We are doing this to bring about change in the country. We can't all go to parliament. There are too many things to do outside of parliament. But people are concerned about the position.” says.
He also mentioned the conflict between him and Umkhonto Wesizwe party founder Jabulani Khumalo.
He says he was actually involved in founding the party, not Khumalo.
“They were saying all kinds of bad things about me and I asked myself, will we even get two-thirds of this? People are now saying, 'Zuma, why did you (relieve) me from my job? ” says. But they never questioned me when I offered them the position. Only 2 weeks left. Black people will miss their first opportunity to unite and take back their country. ”
