ActionSA president Hermann Mashaba has condemned the controversial Democratic Alliance (DA) election campaign ad depicting the burning of the national flag. Mashaba argues that the flag is a national symbol and should not be depicted as burning for political gain.
ActionSA is part of a multiparty charter led by the DA. Mashaba was speaking during a campaign campaign in Lenting village, Nga Mphahlele, on the outskirts of Lebowakgomo in Limpopo province.
“When it comes to the issue of flag burning by the DA, this is very unfortunate. I think the DA's approach to flag burning is a symbol that unites all of us as South Africans, but ActionSA does not agree with this. If the DA wants to play political games against the ANC, they must not burn the symbols that unite us as a nation. Let me burn the flag.”
The DA's office defended the ad.
Meanwhile, Victor Motemela, ActionSA's Limpopo premiership candidate and provincial chairman, is confident that despite being Limpopo's third premiership candidate, this will not hinder the party's success in the province. He said there was.
Mr Motemela said he was confident his party could gather support and win the state.
“I am the third state chairperson in this state, but that does not mean we will fail when it comes to the next election. I have been the state campaign manager since ActionSA was introduced in the state. I have made our presence known to every corner of this state, so I don't think it will be a disadvantage for us when it comes to the change of government. Through our leadership, we are confident that we will prevail and see an even more positive outcome on May 29, 2024.”
