ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa said an investigation was underway into discrepancies in the Limpopo ANC candidate list. ANC provincial secretary Ruben Madaje confirmed that the names of five candidates who were ranked higher on the list had been demoted to lower ranks.
Mr Ramaphosa was speaking at the ANC Siyankoba rally in Malamulele, Limpopo province.
Mr Ramaphosa said ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula had already launched an investigation into the alleged manipulation of the Limpopo ANC parliamentary candidate list.
Two weeks ago, Mr Mbalula revealed that Limpopo province received the most complaints about list tampering. Other provinces where suspected list manipulation is prevalent are KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and North West.
Prime Minister Ramaphosa said Mr Mbalula would visit Limpopo soon to investigate the matter. Mr Ramaphosa said there would be consequences for those found guilty.
“I said this is a process that has already been undertaken so I will wait for the outcome of the process and can comment at a later stage. So it is a bit premature at the moment as to what will happen. We need to find out what happened and how it happened, but then we can make a decision.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ramaphosa said action would be taken against those found guilty of corruption and mismanagement in the Giyani Bulk Water Project. The project began in 2010 as his R90 million emergency contract to supply water to his 55 villages in Jiyani.
The project has now ballooned to R3.2 billion.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the project.

National health insurance bill
Mr Ramaphosa said the new National Health Insurance (NHI) bill, which aims to provide quality healthcare for all, will soon be signed into law.

Many ANC supporters who attended the rally in Malamulele said they hoped the party would resolve service delivery challenges.
“I heard about the ANC's renewal strategy. I hope it will help me get the service, but for now I'm happy. We have payments, we have RDP and power, so the ANC It has helped us a lot, so people should not abandon the ANC.”
Prime Minister Ramaphosa said he was satisfied with the 10-year term of outgoing Limpopo Premier Stanley Matabatha.
Matabatha has already indicated that he will not return to the post of prime minister after the general election.
