Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has promised 2 million jobs if his party is elected to power after the May poll.
Statistics South Africa revealed on Tuesday that the unemployment rate had risen to 32.9%.
Official opposition leaders say unemployment causes other social ills plaguing society.
He was addressing supporters in Evaton, Emfuleni.
“Our people are tired. They want Umsebenge. They want jobs. They want the opportunity to work and earn a paycheck and build a better future. But this government We are going to create jobs, but again, I'm not talking about cars, cars, cars. 7 out of 10 young people. People don't have jobs and that's why they turn to drugs. That's why they sit at home and that's why we have all this crime and gangsterism. The best way to end that is to create jobs for people, and we have a plan to bring in 2 million jobs this election.”
The DA will address the complete breakdown in service delivery and reject the ANC's disastrous national health insurance bill, protecting social grants and delivering the DA's message of providing access to quality universal health care. A large gathering was held in Emfuleni to convey the message.
